IDLE SHIPS

THE WATERSIDE TROUBLE [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, September 7. With the exception of the Lyttelton, Picton, and Nelson ferries and the American steamer Golden State, discharging from the Pacific Coast, all ships in port were idle to-day. It is understood that the watersiders refused to work overtime on the Union Company’s Omana last night. She was declared a preference ship, and when a call was made for labour this morning only the same men offered as were dismissed last night. The employers refused to engage them.
