SEACLIFF SUSPECTS A “SLINTER.”

“ It is to be hoped that tliis ..alteration' of playing aWay instead of home this week is not a ‘ slinter ’ on the part of the Mutch Committee to have one of the Maori Hill and Northern games played in town," wrote, Mr W. Hooper, secretary of the Seticliff Club, in advising of the difficulty he had had in persuading players to travel to Mosgiel last Saturday. "If such is the ease, i caii only say that I am afraid disappointment is staring someone in the face. If, after the round is completed, Seacliff is in the position Of being level with any other team, then, of course, we have no Option biit to play off in town.” Seacliff had had its fair share of travelling, and the players were in the difficulty that they were unable to work when they had matches in Dunedin. ■ 1 . Mr M. G. M'lnnes (chairman of the Match Committee) said that it wajl never his intention that the games should be played in Dunedin. The Secretary (Mr A. W. Sinclair) pointed out that the gate receipts at the Caledonian Ground had not paid the annual outgoings, and the financial aspect Would have to be considered When the draws were being arranged.
