Arcade led Barrington and Punchestown over the first three fences, French Fleet falling at the second fence of the stand double, and then Arcade drew out six lengths .clear of Barringi ton, who was four lengths-in front of Napuna and Peterette, and this was the order crossing the stand double the second time, where Mentali and Membo were last; Tien Membo began to move up, and'entering the back stretch Arcade was four lengths in front of Bar, rington. with Membo, Punchestown, and' Peterette together, three lengths further, back. With six, furlorigs .to go Membo made a- bad jump, and lost ground. Arcade,was six lengths clear of Barrington and Punchestown at the second last fence, which proved fatal to. the last named. 7 Barrington, fell at tbe last fence, leaving Arcade' to win by fifteen length? from Peterette,. With Membo seven lengths away Third, and Mentali the only other to finish, Napuna being pulled up five furlongs from’ home.

■Gamble (£2494) monopolised^the betting in .the Washdyke Harness Trot. Shandon Chiles (£974), the Colleen Chenault—Adstim bracket (£854), Epilogue (£75), and Gannon Shot (£66j) were the next fancied. .. Gamble began best and led into the straight, and then ran almost off the course, and Adstim and Colleen Chenault led a hunched field, Gamble being third last. The favourite improved his position racing along the back and at the far turn Adstim was in charge from'Colleen Chenault. Epilogue, and Cannon 1 Shot. Adsnm led across the top. from Colleen Chenault and Sea Peter. Gamble- and Locust were first, into the straight, but Gamble then quickly headed and easily beat him home by three lengths,' Shandon Chimes six lengths away, third. Locust and Marie Potts were next. First View (£1644), Cheap Money (£133), Teresa (£974), Brown Pearl (£89.)), Grampian (£B9i),, Moonbeam (£86)), and Hot Stuff (£64) were the best backed in the Levels Hack. Handicap. Cheap Money and Lord Masham were the' smartest to jump out, and led round tlie far turn from Brown Pearl, Grampian, and Wild Sky. There was little change racing across the top and Cheap Money was first into the straight from Grampian and Brown Pearl. In the run home Cheap Money just lasted long enough to beat Brown Pearl by a bead, with Grampian two lengths off third. Wild Sky, Reminder, and Hot Stuff were next. ■ Willow Glen (£233); Night Club (£2034.). Slaunlathe (£2034), and Royal” Buck (£714) were the best backed in the Teschemaker Memorial Hunt Cup Steeplechase. Boyal Buck led Marco Polo and Snowy Dawn for the first half-mile. Then Marco '. Polo went on from Royal Buck, .Andy, and Snowy Dawn. Marco Polo fell near the • six-furlong post, leaving Royal Buck with ten lengths’ lead from Night Club and Andy. Night Club jumped to the front at the stand double and led Willow Glen, Snowy Dawn, and Royal Buck. Willow Glen was beaten at the far turn, and at the second last fence Night Club was four lengths in front of Royal Buck and Snowy Dawn. Royal Buck fell at the last fence, leaving Night Club to win easily by six lengths from Snowy Dawn, with Willow Glen-twelve lengths away third. Andy missed the last fence. Morepork (£212), Granado (£1574), and Eaton Hall (£1274) were the best backed in the Hunters’ Plate Handicap. The favourite led out of the straight from Velvet and Master Glance. Racing along the track Morepork was showing clear from Master Glance and Velvet, who were racing together, with Granado next. Master Glance and Granado dropped out racing across the top, and Morepork led Velvet, Eaton Hall, and Granado, who came again into the straight. Then Velvet took charge and ran home an easy winner by four lengths from Eaton Hall, with Peterette a similar distance away third, Pharoah and Morepork next. The winner was the outsider of the field, and returned a big dividend. Silver Sight (£299), Gleaner (£24.3), Gustavo (£202), Hanlbowline (£130), and Red Racer (£B9) were the best hacked in tho Claremont Handicap. Palermo and Niggcrhead were the

smartest out, Haulbowline and Chhota being badly, left. Racing along the bac.»; Niggerhead and Palermo were raring just clear of Red Racer and Gustavo. Palermo was first round the far turn from Beau Geste and Niggerhead, and. led into the straight from Beau Geste, Niggerheacl, Gustavo, and Cleaner. At the distance Cleaner challenged Palermo, but failed by a head to reach Palermo. Niggerhead was two lengths off third, followed by Silver Sight, Gnstavo, and Red Racer. The winner returned another big dividend. MANAWATU R.G. WINS FOR INVICTUS AND FOREIGN QUEEN .The Manawatu Racing Club’s Winter Meeting was held in fine, though cold, breezy weather.
