TO BUY £9,000 PLANE
CENTENARY AIR RAGE ENTRANT AUSTRALIAN AVIATOR'S PLANS [Pkk United Press Association.! AUCKLAND, July 28. One of the five Australian entrants for the Melbourne Centenary Air 11 ace from England to Melbourne, Mr Warren H. Penny, was a through passenger by the Mariposa, which arrived at Auckland this morning. He is on his way to America, where ho is to buy a VI Vultee all-metal monoplane at a cost of £9,000. Mr Penny is accompanied by Mr Uoger Downs, who vsjill form one of the crew of four which the plane will carry when it competes in the race. Mr Penny is only twenty-three years of age, but has had live or sis years’ experience of aviation. In 1928 he enjoyed the distinction of being the youngest) Australian pilot to obtain a commercial license. Subsequently he went to America, where he had considerable experience in commercial aviation. Mr Penny mentioned that it was expected in Sydney that Sir Charles Kingsford Smith would get a clearance for his machine and would leave in it for England during the first week in September.
