CANTERBURY MARKETS The grain and produce market remains very quiet; Quotations are unaltered, though values in all classes of small seeds, fowl wheat, and partridge peas remain firm. Very little interest is being shown in the oats or chaff market. The Waimarino lifted slightly more than 5,000 sacks of potatoes, at Lyttelton yesterday, in addition to 1,400 from Timaru. This shipment is large enough to delay any volume of inquiry from’ the north. Prices remain at £3 12s 6d, f.0.b., s.i., for prompt, and £3 15s ' for August-September, Values on trucks are 20s less. Fowl feed remains firm at from 3s sjd and 3s 6d, f.0.b., s.e. ■ Partridge peas continue firm at 4s on trucks. A fair amount of business has been done for export. CITRUS FRUITS FRONNAMAICA [Per United Pbess Association.] ' WELLINGTON, July 27 Negotiations for trade with the. West - Indies have been m progress for some time. Mr J. W. Collins, New Zealand Trade Commissioner in Canada, was sent down to the West Indies some months ago to make inquiries as possibility of reciprocal .trade with New Zealand, and this action, combined with the individual efforts of certain firms in the dominion, has brought about the prospects of. a new avenue of trade in citrus fruits. The Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company’s liner lonic, which left Wellington on Wednesday for London,' will, on her return trip, call at Kingston and load a consignment of citrus, fruit, - She i§: due

here in November, and will, it is Imped, be followed by the liner Akaroa with a shipment of fruit from the same quarter for the Christmas trade. The vessels of other lines, too, are likely to participate in this new trade, particularly as there is always tourist traffic between England and the West Indies.,

AUSTRALIAN BUTTER PRICES The Australian butter prices for forward delivery’ for the corning week, have been fixed at B}d'&nd Bid per lb.'— Wellington Press Association.
