William Alexander Thompson, aged twenty-four years, a labourer, and Charles Archer Bryant, aged forty-six years, a salesman, were each sentenced at Wellington to reformative detention for a period not exceeding three years on a charge of obtaining £4O in silver by a false pretence—a cheque purporting to be signed by a pawnbroker—from C. E. Torrmgton. Southern Colledge, a teacher of dancing, was fined £lO on a charge of selling liquor without a license.—Press Association.
