Dunidin Playboy. A large and most appreciative audience assembled at the Dunedin Playbox on Monday evening, when Mr Russell-AVodd presented an acted,reading of Ben Levy’s delightful whimsical play, ‘ Mrs Moonlight.’ The play was staged with attention to detail, and dressed in early Victorian attire tor acts one and two. The performers did remarkably well and caught the atmosphere admirably. Miss Nell Warren ' interpreted the part of Sarah Moonlight, and invested it with deep sincerity. Supporting her in the difficult role of Tom Moonlight Mr RussellAVood,presented an interesting and impressive characterisation, his scene with Miss Warren at the end of the play being particularly good. As. Minnie, the dour and yet lovable Scottish nurse to the Moonlight family throughout three generations, Miss Elizabeth Britton presented a fine characterisation, her performance being one of the best yet seen at the Playbox. The remaining charactrs were well plaj'ed by the following:—Miss Leila Greenall, Joy Moonlight; Miss Violet Jefferson, Edith Jones (the second Mrs Moonlight) ; Mr Jim, Walker, Willie Ragg; Mr Tom Quirkb, Percy Middling; and Mr Derek Hancock, Peter (the youngest sort). Mrs Philip Braham introduced the players, and the hostesses for ,the, evening were Miss G. Ruuuerstrum and Miss M. . Hughes. Those present included Mrs Charles Speight, Mr and Mrs E. J. St. Dominic’s Ex-pupils’- Bell. Early spring flowers were tlie predominant note in the prettily-decorated Tudor Hall for the third annual ball of St. Dominic’s Ex-pupils’ Association. Although the evening was wet the hall was cosily arranged, and the bright blooms toned effectively with the subedited lighting, lending a very pleasing atmosphere to. the function. Weeks of. painstaking preparation were *rcflcctetU'JpA'Jhe splendid organisation, and the energetic committee led by Mrs Boswell (president) and Miss Doris was well rewarded for the'time and effort expended. The guests were received by the president of the association-(Airs 11. A. Boswell) and Air Boswell, Airs Boswell wearing a frock of coral pink chiffon velvet made with elbow-length sleeves, and a cowl neckline caught with diamante clips, and carrying a bouquet of anemones presented to her by the secretary (Miss Doris Roche), who wore black taffeta and lace, with a pearl hair bandeau.
