RELIGION AND THE SECULAR PRESS
If you happen to be a reader of the ‘ News Chronicle ’ you will have seen that Hugh Redwood has given up his post on the administrative side of the Eaper and has taken up the task of eing religious editor (says ‘ Study Circle,’ published by Hodder and Stoughton). So far as 1 know, the 1 News Chronicle ’ is the only secular paper which has a religious editor. His job is to collect news of the activities of any of the churches to show what is continually being done by Christian men and women in the unselfish service of the community. .At a time when the papers find news value in anything out of the ordinary, like murder, divorce, and sudden death, there is a very good case for trying to keep the other side of life perpetually in people’s minds ns well. On the other hand, there are those who think that it is cheapening religion to have it connected in any way with anything so worldly as the daily Press. is it better to have one column of religious news rather than no mention of religion ? Or is it better to cut religion right off from the world ? It you were a really active Christian on the staff of a daily paper, what would you do ?
