THE LAST ROUND-UP

A STIRRING WESTERN DRAMA Those who love a story of the great “ out West ” of the old days should not miss seeing ‘ The Last Round , Up,’ which commenced its Dunedin season at the Strand yesterday. The story is based on ‘ The Border. Legion,’ one of Zane Grey’s latest books, and much of the action takes place with a band of outlaws of the type familiar to readers of books dealing with the days when gold coaches were held up at the point of the revolver and robbed of that precious cargo, and outlaws were lynched without a preliminary trial. They are hard riders and straight , shooters, arid lead a life-of glorious freedom, unfettered- by the, trammels of convention., ‘ The Last Round Up ’ deals with such a band known, as the Border Legion, which is the terror of every mining camp and coach driver bn both sides of the border. The original story is given a vivid'interpretation by a good cast, and in its transposition to' the screen has lost: none of the fast action for which Zane’ Grey’s works are rioted.' With many typically. Western settings the life of the cowboys and the outlaws forms excellent entertainment, the interest never lagging for an instant. Randolph Scott, a young actor whose recent performances .in Western roles have gained himvgreat popularity, takes the principal role. The iriinor parts are. capably portrayed by ‘ Monte Blue, Fred Kohler, and Fuzzy Knight. Barbara Adams has ample scope for her talents, , The programme is rounded off with a selection of newsreels and comedies of an attractive nature.
