The four hundredth anniversary of the discovery of Canada by Jacques Cartier, the daring mariner .of Saint Male, will be celebrated at Gaspe in Lower Quebec, on August 25. On the morning of that day the French steamer Champlain will enter the Bay of Gaspe carrying an official delegation from France, and the ceremonies will open with an open-air mass and the blessing of a stone cross erected on the spot where 400 years earlier Cartier set up a wooden cross.
