STONE OF EVIL INFLUENCE

BLAMED FOR CHAIM OF MISHAPS STRANGE TALE FROM NAGNPUR Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright CALCUTTA, May 20. (Received May 21, at 10 a.m.) A chain of mishaps among well-to-do Hindu residents of Naghpur is ascribed to the evil influence of a beautiful sapphire. The sapphire was given to a Naghpur merchant, who within three days lost business orders worth several thousand rupees and was involved in a car accident. He gave the stone to a lawyer, who within twelve hours was knocked down by a car. The sapphire was then given to another lawyer, whose wife died suddenly. It was left in the custody of the cook, who was severely burned when the kitchen caught fire. Two hours after it was again given away the recipient was thrown from a motor cycle while taking it home. The sapphire is now in.the possession of a Parse© woman, and it is believed that its evil influence has been broken now that it is not in the hands of a Hindu.
