ELTHAM JUBILEE
PRIME MINISTER ATTENDS [Per United Press Association.] ELTHAM, May 18. The Prime Minister (Mr Forbes) and Mrs Forbes were the principal guest* at the Eltham jubilee to-day, and had an Enthusiastic reception at all the functions. Mr Forbes inspected the New Zealand Rennet Factory and the Industrial Exhibition. At the pioneers' reunion this afternoon both Mr and Mrs Forbes mixed freely with the people, renewing old friendships and making others. In the evening they received eighteen debutantes at the jubilee ball. ... ■ An impressive welcome was given the Prime Minister at the reunion, held at the Jenkin’s Home on a hill overlooking the rich landscape. Mr Forbe* paid a tribute to the work of mo pioneers. To one who remembered the district fifty years ago, he said, the marvellous transformation which had taken place was a striking tribute to the genius, industry, and courage of the British race. New Zealanders were fortunate in their country, which had been transformed into the finest in the world by the hard toil of the pioneers. They must not forget the pioneers’ wives, whose spirit of hospitality ami co-operation was so strong. That was tlie ,spirit that would help New Zealand through its difficulties.
