“TIME TO THINK.”

TO THE EDITOR. . Sir, —111 the current issue of your paper one read with satisfaction that the age of miracles is, apparently, not yet past. The Right Hon. J. G. Coates has retreated to Waiho Gorge for “ time to think.” How the heavens must tremble! A certain deceased gentleman who “ fiddled while Rome was burning ” has been outgeneralled and ousted from fame. It might bo pertinent to suggest that, while Mr Coates is having “ time to think ” he should review the following 1. Who was responsible for the decimation of the Reform Party? 2. Who was “ the man who gets things done?” 3. What has the Coalition Party done for “ God’s own country ”? . 4. What were his activities from the formation of the despised Coalition Government to date, apart from- the Ottawa “ picnic,” seeing that he has only now claimed “time to think”? 5. Seeing that he, with his political mouthpiece, Mr Forbes, has penalised the thrifty, taking from them their last shilling before they can get relief work ; reduced the pioneer pensioners of this country to beggary; repudiated sacred contracts, made the Government despised as a thing of evil and the jibe of the community; can he claim that he assisted all these measures because he did not have “ time to think ” ? 6. That, although the earthworm is violently aggressive in comparison with what the average New Zealander stands from his Government, the worm will not always have th<j monopoly of “ turning.” 7. That the electors have had “time to think” during the years of misfortune they have been burdened by the crosses the Coalition has made them carry. 8. That many of those who have had “ time to think ” are awaiting the opportunity, with a curbed patience, to assist at the political execution of Messrs Forbes and Coates so that for all eternity thfy may have in their obscurity “ time to tiling.”—l am, etc., ■ • i Waiting.
