BOWSER ROBBERY AND ASSAULT
YOUTHS SENT TO BORSTAL (Pe» Ukjtiu Press Association.] WANGANUI, May 18. Sir M. Myers, C.J., sentenced_ Herbert Woodham Thomas and Benjamin Raymond, aged eighteen and nineteen years respectively, to five years’ Borstal detention. The judge said he had grave doubts a-s to whether lie should order _ a flogging, but on account of their youth would not do so. But for the fact that Quinlan, who was hit on the head with a batten several times, had a thicker skull than was usual, and was of good physique, the prisoners would probably have had to face a much more serious charge. [Quinlan, the night attendant at a service station, was attacked and robbed when answering the youths’ call for petrol.]
