ODDFELLOWSHIP

Leith Lodge, No. 4, held its fortnightly meeting in Albany Street Hall on Monday, there being a good attendance of members under the chairmanship of Bro. E. Purvis, N.G. One candidate was initiated by the N.G. and his officers. P.G.M. Bro. A. H. Valentine introduced Bro. Nairn, of Washington. Bodge, Christchurch. The Friendly Societies’ Council report was submitted by Bro. ’D. M. Miller, and adopted, the delegates being thanked for their services on the council and reelected. For the annual card tournament for the shield the lodge decided to enter, Bro. H. Jones, P.G., to be captain of the team, the first of the series to be played at Unity Lodge next meeting. The vote of thanks to the visitors was responded to by the following:—Veteran Bro. J. Duncan (Pioneer), N.G. Bro. Frame (Linden), N.G. Bro. H. Muir, N.G. Bro. T. Gillespie (Unity). Maori Hill held a successful meeting on Tuesday in the Coronation Hall, N.G. Bro. Robinson in the chair. Correspondence was read from the Grand Lodge re unemployed members’ dues, and it was decided to send a letter of congratulation to Grand Lodge on the manner in which this matter was being conducted. Humorous reading was the item for the evening. Bro. M'Arthur, P.G., amused the company with several readings, being helped by some of the other brothers.

Linden Lodge room was tilled at the last meeting, presided over by N.G. Bro. Frame. The new handbook was received, and members expressed their pleasure at the new edition. The meeting concluded with cards and harmony. The visitors responding were P.G. Bro. J. Duncan (Pioneer) and Bro. A. C. Beveridge (Leith). The next meeting is to be devoted to a bowls challenge match between Linden, The Encampment, and Maori Hill Lodges. South Otago District Lodge held its monthly meeting in Albany Street Hall, D.D.G.M. Bro. R. R. Hendry presiding. It being the first meeting of the year since the installations the different committees were appointed. A vote of thanks to the retiring committees was carried unanimously. P.P.D.G.M. Bro. A. C. Beveridge presented the lodge with a framed photograph of the Grand Lodge Executive aud representatives to the last Grand Lodge session. In thanking the donor, the D.D.G.M. expressed tbe hope that the Grand Lodge session would be of lasting benefit to Dunedin, and that the order would still further prosper under the guidance of those members whose photos they had been presented with that night. A hearty vote of thanks was recorded to P.G.M. Bro. A. H Valentine lor his services as auditor. Members of Pioneer No. 1 and Leith Lodge No. 4 were present, and played a game of cards and bowls against the district, the latter proving the losers m both sections.

Unity Lodge met at Kensington on Monday, when the N.G., Bro. T. Gillespie, was greeted with a good attendance of members. Members of Linden and Maori Hill Lodges attended officially and played a game of cards, the first of the winter series for the Challenge Shield. Wins were gained by the visitors. A vote of thanks to the visitors was responded to by N.G. Bro, Robinson (Maori Hill), N.G. Bro. Frame (Unity), and P.G. Bro. Beveridge (Leith). Two candidates were nominated for membership. It was decided that at the n,ext meeting the Mornington Druids be invited ior a game of cards. St. Kilda Lodge held its meeting on Tuesday night, a fair attendance greeting the N.G., Bro. Muir. A discussion took place re the best way of getting better attendances at the meetings. The remainder of the evening was spent in cards. A vote of thanks to the visitors was responded to by representatives from all the city lodges.

Pioneer had a good attendance at its last meeting. A meeting of the Social Committee was held during recess, and suggestions were given for tbe winter entertainments. One candidate was

proposed for membership. Several visitors, including the D.D.G.M. (Bro. Hendry), responded to the vote of thanks. The Juvenile Committee reported on the advancement being made in this direction, great pleasure being expressed by the members at the progress made.
