SMALL FARMS COST
REPLY BY PREMIER [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, May 16. The Prime Minister (Mr Forbes) has replied as follows to tlie complaint of the president of the New Zealand Small Farms League that unsuitable land at excessive priccs-is being acquired for small farm applicants:— “ Regarding the suggestion that an impartial inquiry should he made into the recent acquisition of laud under the Small Farms Act, I have to say that it is not proposed to set up a special committee to inquire into the matter, 'as such a course is hot deemed necessary. I ivould point out, however, that land for such purposes is acquired by the Government on the recommendation of the Small Farms Board and the sub-committees set up under the Act to advise the board in such matters. After conferring with the Minister of Lands, who is administering the Act, I can see no grounds for the fears which you expressed.”
