Although tho win and place system of betting had been abandoned recently ),v many clubs, said .Mr Klworthy, the majority of the committee was of the opinion that tho system was a logical one, and that it was in no small measure responsible for tho success of the year just concluded. At all of tho club’s meetings, with the exception of the one-day Summer Meeting, substantial increases in the totalisator returns were recorded. The attendances were larger, and although the admission charges here reduced the revenue from this source showed an increase on the previous yeftr. The news of the Auckland Racing Club’s decision tp change the ■ dates of its Spring Meeting to avoid clashing with the Now Zealand Chip Meeting must have" been received .ith satisfaction by all who liad the •iterest of the sport at heart. Ho beared that Auckland would lose nodug by tho change, and tho comdtteo believed the success of the New’ 'calami Cup Meeting would be materii!ly assisted. .Mr A. S. Ehvorthy was re-elected chairman, and Mr George Gould was reelected treasurer. .Mr F. W. Johnston suggested that the bringing of one or two handicap horses from Australia might be considered by the committee. They had seen an example of this in the trotting world, and he was satisfied that if one or two good handicap horses could be brought over similar added interest would he taken in racing. The Chairman said he was afraid their stakes were not high enough to draw horses over unless special prize money was collected for them.
