INDUSTRIES WEEK EFF&RT TJic Dunedin Manufacturers’ Association’s General Committee met last night; present, .Messrs James Hogg (president), T. Somerville, James Stark, William Stevenson, H. Hams, -A. Smollie, W. Garrett, J. H. Stewart, W. G. Kindley, J. Sutherland Ross, James Evans, H. L. Longbottom, and G. AV. Reid (secretary). Mr A. E. Mander, secretary of the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation, was present, and was welcomed by the meeting. ■ NEW MEMBERS. The following new members wore elected ;—D. Kmgsland and Sons, Invercargill, London Mantle Manufacturing Company, King Edward street, South Dunedin,. FINE DISPLAY. The Chairman said that the combined efforts of the manufacturers and retailers of Dunedin had resulted in a lino display of New Zealand-made goods, altogether 460 windows having been devoted to the effort. This gave the Dunedin public an excellent opportunity of viewing the great variety ol high-qual-ity goods produced in the factories of the dominion. It was hoped that the public would respond by asking for the goods they saw on display, and thus give practical effect to the appeal in the Press and on the show cards to support “New Zealand industry ” audio buy “ New Zealand-made goods." The thanks of the Manufacturers’ Association wore due to the retailers of Dunedin for their very tine response and co-operation m displaying New Zealand goods. Retailers would welcome inquiries by the public for the goods on exhibit. The thanks ol the association were also due to both the ' Evening Star and the ‘ Otago Daily Times ' tor the special industrial issues, carrying the messages and appeals of the national leaders in Parliament and stressing the. necessity of progress in manufacturing at the present time. The City Corporation had assisted the industrial displays by generously illumi anting portion of the main street, thus showing the interest of the council in the city's industrial progress, (Applause.) The Chairman also referred to the valuable services of Mr Sheed, of the Industries and Commerce Department, in connection with the display now being made, and to the able assistance of Mr Frude, who carried on the work in Mr Sliced’s temporary absence in Wellington. A. unanimous vote of thanks was accorded to Mr Sliced lor his efforts.
