LEGION OF FRONTIERSMEN

DUNEDIN CITY TROOP The monthly meeting of the Dunedin City Troop of the Legion of Frontiersmen was held recently in the Returned Soldiers’ Association Club rooms. Lieutenant-colonel G. R. Mitchell, 0.C., occupied the-chair.. There werp present twenty-six members of the troop, including Hon. Chaplain F. V. Fisher, padre to the troop, who received a cordial welcome from the officer commanding. The hen. chaplain suitably responded, and stated that he hoped to come to many more meetings. Two new members were elected, and three others were formally proposed. The annual conference of the legion will take place in Napier on June 30, and Sergeant Klee was elected official delegate to that meeting. Trooper David H. Graham was elected liaison officer to the troop. Major J. C. Findlay, chief of staff, and acting commandant, paid a visit to the local troop, and in the evening gave an address in the Returned Soldiers' Association social hall to a fair audience. A social evening was held in the Officers’ Club in honour of Major Findlater’s visit, when a pleasant evening was spent. During the evening an illustrated lantern talk was given by the liaison officer on some aspects ot the legion’s activities. Major J. C. Findlater gave a very interesting talk on legion matters, dealing not only with activities throughout New Zealand, but also with what many other units throughout the Empire were doing. Four car loads of the troop, in uniform, paid a visit to Balclutha, accompanied by Major Findlater, with the intention of forming a troop in. that district. Frontiersman W. M'Allum, of Balclutha, made a capable chairman. Major Findlater was introduced, and gave an interesting address on the Em pire, and outlined the aims and objects of the legion. Colonel Grigor and Dr Burnett suitably responded, and an en joyable supper, prepared by the _BaI clutha members, was much appreciated by the visiting Dunedin troop. During, the evening a number of enrolment forms were filled in with a view, to forming a troop in that district.
