PRACTICAL PSYCHOLOGY
The subject of last week’s meeting of the Dunedin Practical Psychology, Club was ‘ The Secret of Successful Demonstration.’ Miss 0, Mercer presided. When people spoke of making a demonstration they meant they had achieved some practical result through prayer, declarations of truth, affirmation, etc.; they had gained what they, had been reaching out for. .However,; J everyone was demonstrating in, soma way. Those who kept declaring they, never had any luck and were always talking about their troubles were demonstrating, but not along the lines' they desired. There were three rales governing, every demonstration. Tha first was visualisation —keeping a clear mental picture of what was desired, an! ideal-'as a pattern for the subconscious mind to act upon. Then came the power of the spoken word. If one decreed sickness and poverty they, would cling to him. Every idle word brought, results, so one should speak words of px-aise, appx'cciatioxx. love, health, prosperity. The third rule was faith, ■.which had been described as ‘‘ the substance; of things; hoped for.”* It was a strong constructive force acting on invisible substance and bringing it into manifestation. It meant holding an attitude of acceptance and joy,not straining after a thing, but being x-elaxed. poised, and calm, in the knowledge that the desired result would come about. Having a feeling of resentment against anyone would detrimentally affect one’s demonstration, because' the radiation from .one with' that feeling or anger or ill-will held back our good.
