RANSOM DEMANDED
LOS ANGELES KIDNAPPING Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright LOS ANGELES, May 12. The Gettle kidnapping case was complicated to-day by the receipt of two ransom demands by the family, one for 75,000d0l and the other for 40,000d01. All police activities were halted after t)he first demand, with relatives hastening arrangements to obtain funds and hand them over to the kidnapper, when the second demand was telephoned. Gettle’s invalid wife, who is the mother of four children, suffered a collapse, and her life is despaired of.
[An earlier message read-as follows: —ln the absence of the customary ransom note, the police are mystified at the kidnapping of William Gettle, a wealthy petroleum producer, from his suburban home early in the morning. Two masked men entered the grounds during a garden party, and at the pistol point forced Gettle to accompany them.]
