The course extended along Lovers’ lane for three-quarters of a mile, then round into Victoria road, finishing in front of the Scout Hall. Fourteen competitors faced the starter (Mr P. W. Breen), who got the field away to a good start. W. J. Tointon at once took the lead, and crossing the Beach road the order was: Tointon, Lorden, aud Curtis, closely followed by Elliott and Sinclair. This order remained unchanged until just before turning out of Lovers’ lane, when Curtis ran to the front, followed by Elliott and Sinclair, with Romerill and Marctt lying handy. In a great finish 1. Curtis hung on to win narrowly from K. Romerill and A. Marett. _ The scaled handicap was won by K. Romerill. Tho race was controlled by Messrs P. W. Breen, E. A. C. Taylor, C. R. Holmes, and A. L. Price. After the race a run was held for non-competi-tors, about thirty members turning out. The trail led along lane to the Cemetery and down into Tomahawk, then up the hill to file monument and back the High road, up Queen’s drive, and home. LEITH. A muster of twenty-five runners assembled for the Leith Club’s run from the George Street School Hall. Captain Anderson chose the trail which led down Duke street, across the Gardens bridge, and through tho upper Gardens track to Signal Hill road, which was followed nearly to its eud v Here a side street which led up the ' lower slopes of Signal Hill was followed. After a short period of cross-country the new road up Signal Hill was followed to its end. At the conclusion of this road a steep track provided a lengthy sliding descent down to about Ravcnsbourne. After descending the zig-zag ,the main road was reached. There two packs were formed, the fast under Captain Anderson and the slow under Deputycaptain Mann. The fast pack continued •along the main road, up Union street, along Cumberland and up Howe street. The home run resulted;—E. Reid first, G. Ferguson second, with R. Ferguson third. The slow pack crossed Logan Park and proceeded tip Dundas street, and a short run home resulted in W. Mann, J. Todd, and R. Dalton being in the lead. CARGILL ROAD METHODISTS. The above club held its two-mile race at St. Kilda. Seventeen faced Mr MTndoe, the starter. The course was right along Lovers” lane to Tomahawk cemetery, and back along the road to the terminus. Lumb ran a very ‘ good race from start to finish, going right through the field to finish first by about 200yds. Up to the cemetery gates the field was .closing up very well, most of the back-markers catching up a good bit on their handicaps. At the turn Hare, Kewish, Webster, and Manley were in a bunch, with several of the middle-markers just behind them. Lumb and Clark, of the back markers, were catching, the bunch just here. On the run to Tahuna Park Lumb and Clark both caught the front markers, and ’one or two of these fell back. Lumb continued to gain ground, aud was establishing a lead no one could catch. The order was changed very little on the finishing run, and Lumb finished easily first. Maniey was second and - Webster, third. Fastest time went to D. Lumb (12.119), M'Gregor second (13.27). The thanks of the club are due to Rev. ,G. Brown, Mr MMndoc, Mr Wellington, and Mr Graves, who acted as officials. ROSLYN. ■ The Roslyn Club held its oue-mile maiden from the St. Clair Baths. Everett (90yds), and A. Hutton (120yds) were second and third respectively. Following the race the members held a short rim. NORTHERN. The above club held a very enjoyable run from the schoolroom of the Glenavon Methodist Church. With a good pack the captain set off at a brisk pace up the Main North road, turning off at Calder street. The trail followed along Primrose street into Dalmeny street, where stiff climb was encountered into Signal Hill road. The steep _ grade which followed was soon negotiated, and when a distance of approximately a mile and a-half had been covered the pack was placed under the control of pack members D. Fincham and E.-Brown. These two members set a trail across the paddocks which proved to be exceptionally rough, in a northerly direction. Later they circled around into a good patch of scrub, much to the disapproval of several members. A fairly muddy track was then struck for about five minutes, until the brow of the hill above Ravensbourne was reached. The trail now led. downhill through rocky country, much gorse and manuka being encountered. Captain MTvinlay, who had taken charge of the pack at the top of the hill, led it down across Shiel’s quarry, Logan Point, across Logan Park, through much water and mud, up a steep incline into Dundas street. The trail'now followed along through the Gardens part ‘ of the track for the club’s li-milo course being covered into Opoho road, and around to the Gardens corner. When the pack had covered a short distance • along the home stretch at a fairly slow jog the whistle for the run home was given. Result: G. Armishaw 1, B. Hangh 2, E. Brown 3. ST. PATRICK’S. The limit men, C. Conroy and R. Baughan, set a good pace, and had a good lead when the scratch man, N. Garney, started. Passing Tabuna, J. M’Laughlin and O. Scott came up well, taking the lead from R. Baughan, the scratch man passing F. Byrne and running into third place. The order remained the same until about a furlong from home, where N. Gearney made a great effort, and in an excellent finish, beat J. M'Laughlan by inches, with O. Scott close np third. Bryne, C. Conroy, and R. Baughan were next. Time, sniin losec. The members then held a run from the St. Kilda terminus, along Lovers’ lane to the cemetery, up over the Tomahawk hill to the foreshore. The trail here led down a steep slope, along a muddy cow track, back over the hill, along Lovers’ lane, and home, the first to arrive being L. Lemon, T. Bryne, T.

Robinson, and W. C. M’Domiell. Before the mile the club photo was taken by Mr A. Fry, who later ran with the puck. Members are reminded that the run next week will take place from Mr Airey’s residence, Russell street, at 2.45. CIVIL SERVICE. Civil Service held its annual ouemile race for the Postal Cup at the Carisbrook Ground. A good field of forty-two runnel's faced the starter (Mr R. Thompson). The Jimjt men, Fen ley and Henderson, set a good pace and led for tho first two laps, M‘Kersey, MTvinnon, and Mason coming up in the third lap. In the last lap a good finish resulted in a win for Ramsay (160yds), who had been working his way to the front closely followed by S. Anderson (150yds) second, and R. M‘Lachlan (170yds) third. , E. The annual two-milo open and junior handicap wore decided from the St. Kilda bathing pavilion. The junior race was run separately. The course commenced from the St. Kilda end of Lovers’ Lane to Moreau stret, on to Victoria road to St. Clair, around the playground, along Lovers’ Lane for 200yds, and cutting from there to Victoria road, to the St. Kilda terminus. Despite the strong head wind, the limit men in the junior race made particularly fast time, and at the St. Clair turning the position was; Michael, Dickinson, Henry. Running well within himself, Henry took the lead at Victoria road, with Michael and Dickinson close behind. In a spirited finish Henry was first, with Dickinson second, and Michael, third. Time, 12min 30sec. ■ The open race was Tim immediately after, over the same course. The limit men were going great guns-for the first part of the journey, and did not give the back-markers a chance of gaining ground; and at the St. Clair turning Ross, Duell, and Johnstone were leading the field. But on entering Victoria road J. Napier (who was striding out beautifully) took the lead from Duell and Johnstone, and finished undistressed. The result was: J. Napier 1, J. Duell 2, C. Pope 3, L. R. Pullar, who finished with a fine sprint just to head L. Rackley, third. The race started in Lover’s lane by the Battery yard, and led to Victoria road aud along towards St. Clair, back on to Lovers’ lane, and finished at the clearing. The head wind along Victoria road bad the effect of making the pace fairly slow, but despite this those runners who were placed ran well-judged races, and deserved their places. CAVERSHAM. The Caversham Club held its weekly run from the St. Clair Baths, thirtyfive members' turning out under the whistles of Captain J. A. Robertson and Deputies Gerrie and Bartlett. The trail led along Lovers’ lane to the Cemetery, and thence to Smaill’s Beach by way of the Tomahawk Beach. Some good country was encountered in the neighbourhood of the lagoons, many spills occurring in the muddy going. The packs then made their way along Lovers’ lane. The starter (Mr Henry) set the limit man off at a fast pace, with the scratch man (E. Hastie) following 40sec later. At Kettle Park first time round AA’. Gasper (20sec) and H. Henry (30sec) were leading, but they were soon displaced by L. James, who was closely followed by N. Kennedy and Hastie. L. James kept his lead till about 20yds from home, when N. Kennedy, with a determined sprint, caught up on James at the post, making the finish a dead heat. Result:—L. James (losec) and N. Kennedy (Bsec) 1 (dead heat), AA 7 , Gasper 3.
