COUNCIL'S ACCEPTANCE OF BRITISH TENDER
APPRECIATION FROM AUCKLAHO Appreciation of the City Council’s action m accepting the British tender foisted pipes for the water supply is contained in a letter to the town clerk (Mr G. A. Lewin) received this morning from the chairman of the United Kingdom Manufacturers’ and New Zealand Representatives’ Association, Auckland branch (Mr J. Hislop), who states it is noted that the council has _ been prompted to assist British industries by giving a preference of 3 per cent, in favour of British steel. Mr Hislop continues; “Such a gesture of goodwill toward Great Britain, in view of what lias been said during the past week in the House of Commons, was most timely, and I fed sure the action of your council will be much appreciated by those in the Old Country. I am taking the opportunity of sending the cutting from the Press,, and the comments upon it, to the Federation of British Industries by the outgoing mail, and it was a great privilege to me as an old ‘ Dunedinito ’ to draw the attention of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce at to-day’s meeting to the action of .your council. “ I am glad to say a unanimous vote of appreciation is being sent to the Dunedin Council by the Auckland Chamber of Commerce. . . “I sincerely hope your patriotic action will ho followed by other local bodies.
