NOTICE TO QUIT

THE CAMBRIDGE PARISH QUARREL MR BELL HOLDS ON [Pin United Pbkss Association.) CAMBRIDGE, May 12. A further development associated with the action of the bishop of the diocese in declaring the living of St. Andrew’s vacant is an instruction received from Bishop Chcrrington by the Rev. Gordon Bell to vacate the vicarage by Juno 11. This morning Mr Bell reiterated his contention that he was still tho vicar of Cambridge until a. ruling was received by him from the Standing Commission, And in view of that lie will remain in residence at the vicarage. In respect of Sunday services Air 801 l expressed a desire not to cause any unpleasantness in connection with any unavoidable clash of services. He stated that he had written to the Rev. S. It. Warcing, vicar of To Awamntu, and had thanked him for taking the service at Ohaupo to-morrow morning, This had been arranged by the bishop. Air Bell had also written the bishop’s appointee at Tamahcrc for to-morrow morning (the Rev. C. W. Clark), and advised him of his own intention to hold a service at St. Steven’s at 11 a.m. Mr Clark, who is a resident at Cambridge and was formerly assistant curate at St. Andrew’s, has been appointed bishop’s surrogate to perform marriages in the parish. As Mr Bell has let the new parish hall to St. Peter’s Catholic Church for a. dance, the parishioners’ annual meeting the same night will have to be held in an old hall which is inadequate to hold the number present at previous meetings.
