ABOLISHING WAR.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—lf the Welfare League believes that war will always last, I should like to ask it if it is in favour of an economy campaign to close up all churches that are simply wasting time preaching about the time when the wolf shall lie down with the lamb and the Hon shall cat straw like the bullock. Again, could wo not dispense with missionaries, who teach that the practice of head-hunting is wrong for the so-called heathen, and keep them at home to justify it iu the interests of sound finance and capturing foreign markets? And, finally, what a Inigo saving could be made by the _ total abolition of Christmastidc, with its heresy of “Peace on earth, goodwill to men.”
If war will last for ever, as the league says” will these gentlemen occupy the front-line trenches in the next one? Let the league make no mistake, we will abolish war when we abolish the Staviskvs. Kreugers, Hatiys, Whitaker Wrights, Judas Iscariots, and Simon sorcerers, every one of whom was not a Communist, but a sound financier —that is, till be was found ont.-i am, etc., Popoffski.
