‘THE MERRY WIDOW BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION. VIENNA, April 30. Franz Lehar, the composer of ‘The Merry Widow,’ celebrated ms sixtyfourth birthday to-day in his chateau overlooking the Danube. Many famous musicians and singers attended to offer their congratulations. While he still composes, Lehar s hobbies consist of playing billiards, furnishing flats—of which he has five, containing fourteen pianos—and also collects stamps, cartoons, and programmes. The collection of programmes consists of. 200,000 from all. parts of the world, chiefly announcing; Lehar compositions. Australia is especially well represented owing to a ■ rich , sheep farmer making a collection and sending it to Lehar.
