Messrs Donald Reid and Co. Ltd. report as follows: Wheat.—Samples are still coming to hand from the country. Millers are taking all suitable lines at current rates. There is a fair proportion arriving out of condition. The Wheat Board does not handle other than milling quality, therefore lines that are not in condition : can be sold on growers’ own account to best advantage. Milling rates for May are as follow:—Tuscan 3s 7d, Hunters 3s 9d, Velvet 3s lid, sacks extra, f.0.b., main ports. Fowl wheat is worth 3s to 3s Id, 0.t., country , stations. Ex store prices range from 3s 3d to 4s per bushel, sacks extra. Oats.—This market has not shown the improvement, expected at the beginning of the season. Values are easier again, and as only a, small proportion of, the offerings is of good quality it is hard to get reasonable offers for the samples coming to hand. Good heavy Gartons suitable for milling are worth Is lOd, B grade Is 7d, and un-der-grade Is sd, sacks extra, on trucks, country stations. Chaff. —There is ample available for all inquiries. The chaff demand in the city is steadily decreasing. It is a rare occurrence to sell a full truck of chaff to any one feeder. Best oaten sheaf is worth £3 15s ex truck for full truck lots. Smaller lots realise up to £4 ss, sacks extra, ex store. Medium quality is worth £3 15s, ex store, sacks .extra. Potatoes. —The wet weather has interfered with digging operations, but farmers are in . no, hurry to sell their potatoes. In some instances the tubers have been pitted, and these will not be lifted until the spring. Various lots have also been sent into store to be held until some future date. _ There are, however, plenty available in store for merchants’ immediate requirements. During the week best tables realised up to £4 10s per ton, sacks in, ex truck, Dunedin. £4 5s per ton is ex truck villne -to-day, and even if the embargo on Australian exportation was lifted values would not improve to any extent at the prices ruling at present in the Australian markets.

The policy of the Board of Directors it) the way of making all sales at Singapore is . confirmed by the company’s agents. Advices to hand to-day are as follows (under date April 11) :—“ For your information we would mention that the_ values on this market have been ruling for the last four or five months considerably above the parity of London, so that during this period it has certainly been beneficial for the estate to sell locally rather than in London, and it would appear that this is likely to continue until some definite statement regarding restriction is made, as dealers in the Federated Malay States are very optimistic regarding restriction, and refuse to sell if the market shows any signs of weakening.” SALES ON ’CHANGE: THIS DAY.
