MYSTERIOUS S.O.S.
SOMEWHERE IN THE TASMAN Pres* Association—By Telegraph—Copyright SYDNEY, May 11. .A mysterious S.O.S. radio message was picked up by coastal shipping last night. The signal was heardby an operator on the freighter Sirsa, in Bass Strait, . about 8 p.m. Simultaneously an-urgent request was received from a .powerful New Zealand ' station_ asking all Australian shipping immediately ■to; clear the air. for fifteen minutes, as that station had also heard the S.O.S. from sonmwhere on .the Tasman- Sea. Fifteen minutes later the _ same New - Zealand station told the ships to carry on' as that station would continue to listen throughout the night.
