John btahl was given carte blanche to secure just tne proper player for every role, whetliei it was important or unimportant. In addition to the ninety-three name parts, Universal also used 4,500 extras iu ‘Only Yesterday’ to make tins picture tho actors’ and extras’ delight. In the final scene alone eighteen welJknowu screen players were used. ‘Only Yesterday,’ presented as Universal’s most ambitious picture or the season, features Margaret John Boles, Edma May Oliver, Billie Burke, and Reginald Denny in leading roles. Other important part® are played by Jimmy Butler, Benita Hume. Franklin Pangborn, George Meeker, June Clyde, Barry Norton, Bert Roach, Onslow Slovens, Berton Churchill, Walter Catlett, Noel I<rands, Betty Blythe, Mario I revest, Lucille Powers, Richard Tucker, and dozens of others. Margaret Sullavan, a favourite of the New York stage, makes her first screen appearance, and it is claimed that her performance in 4 Only Yesterday ’ is destined to htt her to the front rank- of film actresses. 4 Only Yesterday ’ will commence its Dunedin season at the Regent Theatre next Friday.
