NEW NOSES
Some years ago horticultural hybridists aimed to produce a green rose, and although we now have our green rose it has not found favour and it is merely valued as something novel. The next aspiration was to produce a black rose, and this now seems to be accomplished. The well-known hybridist, Max Krause, of Holstein, has suereeded, by crossing the varieties Chateau de Clos Vougcst and Lord Castlerepg, in producing a really black rose which is said at first glance to appear artificial, ft has been named Nigrctte, and has buds of medium size, opening to a well sized bloom, blooming freely, and with foliage of a dark green colour, and, most important of all, of hardy constitution.
