'Triumph Lodge, No. 9, held its fortnightly. meeting on Thursday, May 3, in the Lodge Hall, W.M. Bro. James Weir presided, and was assisted by P.M. Bro. A. Develin and Chaplain P.M; Bro. Barr. There was an excellent attendance of members •and visitors, I.P.M. Bro. Lindsay and officers and members of Loyal Excelsior Lodge, and several members of Valley True Blue Lodge. Business was suspended to initiate a new member. Wor. M. Bro. Weir conducted the ceremony, assisted by his officers, in a very impressive manner. General business was resumed. The auditors (Bros. Sincock and Barr) reported that they had carefully examined the books and vouchers; and found everything in good order. They were pleased to report that all funds showed an increase, which was very satisfactory. They had to congratulate the lodge on having such good officers as the secretary (Bro. R. D. Bachop) and the treasurer (Bros. Jas. Robb) in charge. Bro. Deliver reported that, in company with the G.M., Bro'. J. Harvey, P.G.W Bro. Christie, Grand Secretary, and Grand Trustees they went to Invercargill to open a new lodge, the Southern Cross. The function was highly successful, and the opportunity and outlook for the new lodge were very promising. A vote of thanks to the visitors was replied to by Bro. Lindsay. P.M. A euchre tournament for the shield was then hold between teams from Excelsior Lodge and Triumph Lodge. Excelsior won by 17 games to 8 games. Supper was provided, and the evening was enjoyed by all. Despite the adverse weather conditions there was a very good attendance of members at the fortnightly meeting of Valley True Blue, held in the Orange Hall on Tuesday, the Bth inst., W.M. Bro. Turner presiding. Two candidates were initiated, and five proposed for membership. Tbe social syllabus was submitted by Bro. Zimmormanu, ami proved very well arranged, being approved without alteration. A hearty vote of thanks was given to P.M. Bro. Jackson, of Triumph No. 9, for Ids regular attendance at lodge. Bro. Jackson sets an example to many members by his attendance. It was decided to challenge Loyal Excelsior at an early date for the euchre shield, and also pay an official visit to Triumph No. 9. After the lodge closed the W.M. and his officers paid an official visit to Pride of tho Valley Ladies’ Lodge, being the first lodge to do so. They received a very hearty welcome.
