CARE OF MATTRESSES
Wire mattresses need regular attention for two reasons. Firstly, because they harbour dust, and, secondly, because of their liability to rust and damage the bedding. Dust can be removed by blowing with a pair of bellows or a bicycle pump. If neither of these is available rub thoroughly with a dry paint brush. To guard against rust it is an excellent plan to paint the wire part of your mattresses with the aluminium paint that is obtainable from any store for a few pence. Since rust cannot be avoided iudedeFinitely it -is wise tot lay a sheet of unbleached calico between mattress and bedding. This will save tho bedding from iron mould, which would otherwise appear when tho mattress became rusty. A few/damp days and a badlyrusted mattress can quickly cause bedding cases to rot. The calico guard-sheet can be washed frequently, and should be rinsed in a strong disinfectant, so that when dry and replaced it will act as an insecticide.
