THE CHARM OF VELVET
Corduroy velvet is made in many colours and has marvellous wearing qualisome even declare it can be washed! For autumn the three most successful shades are black, brown, and the new moss green and mulberry shades. The charm of velvet has been irresistible during this autumn season, both for afternoon and evening wear. Long velvet coats with scarf collars and detachable fur “ halters ” are much favoured for evening—sometimes lined with the same satin or tissue as the dress beneath. Velvet evening gowns cut on long, slim lines, with a graceful fullness trailing ori the ground and only decorated by an important buckle, clip, or spray of flowers are extremely becoming and fashionable. Velvet hats and caps are being worn by women of all ages, small caps with stiffened “ halo ” veils, also slightly brimmed models that cast a flattering shade over the eyes are at their most alluring when made in deep, rich-col-oured velvets to match or tone with the ensemble. / Velvet blouses arc a novelty of this season. These are worn quite close to the throat, and are usually in a deeper colour than the suit.
