WRESTLING

OKI SHIKINA V. HARRY MAMOS The sporting public are promised it very special treat' on next at the Town Hall when Oki Shikina, who is regarded as the world’s best and most sensational Japanese matman, meets Harry Mamos, whom experts in American consider to be _ the _ most scientific wrestler of his weight in the world, meet in a mixed contest of catch-as-catch-can and jiu-jitsu with' jackets. Every critic who knows his game places Mamos in a class by himself. With another stone to his weight, Mamos would rank with Browning. He has all the other- necessary faculties—brains, technique, will power, speed, and endurance. If only Mamos could be forced to Ipse his temper in the ring there would be some sparks flying. Some say he is too cold and calculating. Perhaps he is.but his handicap in weight has forced him to study especially _ the scientific side of wrestling, and his shrewd calculating brain makes up in great measure for his lack of weight. Shikina is new to New -Zealand, and is- destined to be a great draw card this season. He was brought to America scarcely two years ago by Taku Myaki, the promoter who selects the whole of the Japanese wrestlers' for the States, with the definite idea in mind that he would one day be world’s champion. He is certainly a champion in the making, and Myaki is no idle boaster when ho hails his protegee as the future king of wrestling. Ho has met and beaten wrestling. He has met and beaten,' Gene Bruce, who lasted only 3min 3sec,Benny Ginsberg, Lance Court Zaranoff, Henry Grater, the German champion who has beaten Vic. Gresing and Hans Sveinke, Frank Schrall, and others. Naturally he has specialised in the style of wrestling associated with the Japanese, and patrons will see two clever exponents _of _ jacket jiu-jitsu give the first exhibition of this style seen in Dunedin for many years. _ Ther« will be the usual amateur preliminaries, and altogether patrons are promised a, more than usually interesting night,Particulars as to prices, etc., are advertised.
