ATHLETIC PERFORMANCES PASSED OAMARU GIRL'S SUCCESS The secretary of the Otago Centra of the New Zealand Amateur Athletio Association (Mr T. M. Brydoue) ha* received advice from the secretary of the council (Mr L. A. Tracey) that tha performance of Miss Betty Forbes, of 4ft 9iin in the ladies’ high jump at the Otago championships at Dunedin on February 3, has been passed as a, New Zealand record, and also as the best New Zealander’s performance. J. P. Metcalfe’s high jump of 6ft 3|iu, at Dunedin on February 24, wa* also passed as a New Zealand record, and he will be issued with a certificate to that effect, though a subsequently better performance has been approved as, a record. The following applications for New. Zealand records were also passed:—H, K. Brainsby (Auckland), 48ft 2iin, Wellington, February 17 (also best New Zealander’s performance) ; P. F, Sharplev (Hawke’s Bay-Poverty Bay), 220yds low hurdles, 26sec, Wellington, February 16 (also best New Zealander’* performance); I. Driscoll (Hawke’* Bav-Poverty Bay), half-mile walk, 3min 1 3-sscc? Wellington, February 19 (also best New Zealander’s perform, ance) ; J. P. Metcalfe (Australia), hop, step, and jump, 50ft lin, Auckland, March 24; J. W. Savidau (Auckland), three miles, 14min 27 l-ssec, Auckland, March 24 (also best New Zealander s performance). Applications for best Now Zealanders’ performances were passed as follow H. K. Brainsby (Auckland), hop. step, and jump. 49ft B]in, Auckland, March 24 ; P. J.
