POLICE COURT
FRIDAY, MAY 11. (Before Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. A first offender was fined 12s Cd, in default twenty-four Fours’ imprisonment. ARMS ACT BREACH. Edmund John Hyde Harris pdeaded guilty to delivering a firearm without a permit, and was convicted and discharged. FAILURE TO CLOSE SHOP. Charged with failing to close his shop on Anniversary Day, Robert Rutherford (Mr B. S. Irwin) was convicted and ordered to pay court costs, the Magistrate stating that the defendant had not granted a holiday on a substitute date, although he had paid his employees at the rate of time and a-half. MOTORISTS DEALT WITH. Charged with being an ■ unlicensed motor driver, Robert James Stanaway pleaded guilty, and was fined 5s and costs (3s). Silvester Russell was fined 5s and costs for driving an unlighted motor car. For riding an unlighted motor cycle William Ralph Ewing Stephenson was lined 5s and costs. John Geeves (Mr P. S. Anderson) was fined 20s and costs on each of two charges of exceeding the road classification loading, and carrying an excessive load on the rear axle. He was convicted and discharged for carrying a greater load than licensed. David Stanley Arthur, who was represented by Mr C. J. L. AVhite, pleaded guilty to driving a motor lorry at a speed exceeding fifteen miles per hour, and was fined 40s and costs. For failing to pay a heavy traffic license fee, Arthur A. J. Holmes was fined £lO 4s and costs. Maurice Smith, an unlicensed motor driver, was fined 5s and costs. James Samuel Burrows, who was represented by Mr B. H. Pinfold, was charged with operating a motor lorry carrying a greater load than lie was licensed to do, and was fined 20s and costs. „ , , Sidney Smart was fined 10s and costs for operating a motor lorry carrying a greater load than ho was licensed to do. , For driving a motor lorry at an excessive speed, Archibald Robert Wardrop was fined 40s and costs. John Patrick Alexander Whaian admitted operating a motor lorry without a heavy traffic license, and was fined 5s and costs. . . On a charge of dangerous driving. Leonard Chalmers Young was fined 20s and costs. , . . Alexander Clifford M'lntyrc denied a similar charge. After evidence was heard, he was lined 20s and costs.
