BOMBARDED WITH QUESTIONS
MR LATHAM IN JAPAN JOURNALISTS IMPRESSED Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright. KOBE, May 8. On arrival at Nagasaki of the Latham mission an army' of Japanese Press interviewers tackled Air Latham with woolfish appetites, and for 15 minutes bombarded him with the bluntest questions. For they asked Mr Latham; “What do you think about the Tokio Foreign Office’s unofficial statement on China? ” “ Which side would Australia take in the event of war, America or Japan? ” “ How does Australia regard the Japanese claim to naval parity?” “Why does Australia continue to exclude Japanese immigrants? ” The interviewers were plainly disappointed at Air Latham’s fencing throughout, remarking to him: “ You are very clever.” However, they were impressed when he assured them that it was a very easy matter to create illwill by answering some questions, whereas his mission was one of goodwill, and he did not intend to treat it otherwise.
