EARLY SETTLERS
MEETING OF ASSOCIATION The monthly meeting of the committee of the Otago Early Settlers’ Association was held on Tuesday afternoon. There wore present:—Messrs J. J. Mallard (president, in the chair), dailies Brown, W. J. Strong, J. Hope, W. H. Eerens, H. Baron, IC. Webster, W. Nioolson, C. C. Robertson, Crosby Morris, and James Wallace. The President feelingly referred to the death of Airs K. Horwood, who for many years was a faithful employee of the association. The members of com mittee stood for a moment as a mark of respect to her memory. The treasurer read the financial report for the past month. This was approved, and accounts amounting to £l3 •is Sd were passed for payment. The following gifts were received, and votes of thanks were passed to the donors Mrs Kilgour, St. Hilda, rustic walking stick made and used by her late husband, Mr Kilgour (Sir Edward Paget, 1856) ; Mr Edgar T. Shand, Kokonga, framed portrait of his grandfather, Air William Shand (George Canning, 1857); Air J. B. Stout, secretary of the Roslyn Bowling Club, jubilee souvenir booklet, 1883-1933 ; the late Air Edward C. Walmsley, St. Hilda (per Airs Walmsley), framed portraits of Ids parents, Captain and Airs Benjamin Walmsley (Larkins, 1849), and framed portraits of his sisters, Airs H. Turton (nee Walmsley) and Airs M. MacGregor (nee Walmsley, Larkins, 1849) ; Mrs Frank Harkness, Dunedin, ■photograph of homestead of her father, Andrew Bambery, Arden Bay, near St. Leonards (arrived Nourmahal, 1858). (This was built by himself from timber cut from surrounding bush, and he resided in it for sixty years.) James Alurray, South Dunedin,'framed photograph of his mother, Mrs John Murray (nee Al'Cartney), Tokomairiro (Strathmore, 1856) ; Aliss E. Cleghorn, Tapanni, camp oven used by her parents, Mr and Airs John Cleghorn; Aliss M. Mitchell, Alosgiel, photographs of her parents, Air and Airs John Cameron Mitchell, Balclutha (Air Alitchell, Jessie Brown, from Alelkourne, 1861; Airs Alitchell, nee Alacaiister, Silistria, 1862) ; the late Aliss M. J. H. Douglas, Gore (per G. S. Alartin, Gore), framed portraits of her grandparents. Air and Airs William Ronald, Southland (Mr Ronald. Robert Henderson, 1858; Airs Ronald, nee Mathieson, Strathfieldsaye, 1858) ; Airs J. 8011, Invercargill, framed portraits of her parents, Air and Airs James Baird; Purakanui (Stormcloud, 1860) ; Mr AV. Al. Brown, Dunedin, copper trade token dated 1874; Airs J. Waddell Smith, Dunedin, framed portrait of her late husband’s mother, Airs J. Gibson Smith, Invercargill (Sevilla, 1863) ; Air A. Alunro, Dunedin, very old Gaelic Bible; Air George Simpson, Dunedin, original snecifications of Knox Church, Dunedin (Air David Ross, architect). dated 1872; Air H. G. Williams, Dunedin, four copper mcdalettes mounted and framed, issued by the Now Zealand Government to school children during the visit of their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall, in 1901; Air B. Coleman, Dunedin, framed portrait of his grandmother, Airs Alary Williams (nee Carey), Port Chalmers (Magnet, 1840). The following deaths were recorded during the month :—Air John Orr, Timaru (93).
