Final gallops for the Invercargill Meeting were marred by heavy mist, which obscured the horses till they reached the straight. Plenty of work was done on the outside course proper, and the presence of several visiting horses gave interest to the proceedings, including Great Weather, Jacobin, Lady Kate, Uintah, Palmary, Tippling, and Water Power (who looks particularly well), Brown Pearl, arid Master Anomaly. Barron, a Welsh golfer playing in the women’s championship at Portcawl, appeared in grey flannel trousers, surprising even her Welsh colleagues, who said trousers were a breach of golfing etiquette. Miss Barron replied; “1 am going to continue wearing them. I’m sure objectors will get used to them. The Ladies’ Golf Onion decided not to interfere with players’ personal wishes, expressing the opinion that women could wear trousers if they wish, especially as women wear shorts in tennis.
