WHAT TO DO WITH £500,000

COMEDY PLOT OF 'THIS 18 THE LIFE'

If you ever thought what you would do if you inherited £500,000 you should see the British Dominions release, ‘ This is the Life,’ at the St. James to-morrow. The story is set around the sudden fortune of Mr and Mrs Tuttle (played by Gordon Harker and Binnio Hale), who, through the death of an uncle, inherit the above amount. They are just ordinary people running an oldfashioned tea house when the glad news arrives. From that moment the Tuttles resolve to let joy be unconfined. By the time the Tuttles have passed through the hands of a series of hairdressers, tailors, dressmakers, and masseurs, they are almost unrecognisable. Their address is Park Lane, their associates are “ ’igh society. The suave Count de Marsoc, much to their delight, becomes infatuated with their daughter, Edna. Mrs Tuttle revels in the new. life, but poor Mr Tuttle begins to pine for his old friends, his old haunts, and am honest mild-and-bitter after the glut of chainPa Qne r day the Tuttles return home, weary and footsore, from a dancing academy, where they have been wrestling with the intricacies of the Rumba. On entering the house they are waylaid by two sinister-looking individuals, who claim a share of the inheritance. The Tuttles manage to stall them oft for the time being. A day has been -fixed by the Tuttles for an ostentatious reception, preceded by a dinner for their society friends. On the night of the big reception Mr and Mrs Tuttle’s eccentric behaviour causes much amusement. Mrs Tuttle loudly proclaims that “ a beautiful voice is a gift from heaven.” This is a signal for her husband to ask her to sing, and they give an excerpt from *II Trovatore in a manner that is screamingly funny in its execution, and made more so at its conclusion by the arrival of the two “toughs.” From then on the story moves with lightning rapidity to a conclusion which is both convincing and logical.
