ROYAL COMMISSION OPENS PROCEEDINGS IN CAMERA [i-jpECIAT, TO THE ‘ StAU.’J WELLINGTON, May 0. The Royal Commission to inquire into the dairying industry was opened in Parliament Buildings to-day. The chairman (Mr Justice Frazer) stated to your correspondent that the proceedings would be largely in camera, ns much of the evidence would be confidential. The Press would bo provided with some information regarding the witnesses, though not necessarily summaries of. their evidence. The first witness was Dr R. At. Campbell, of the secretarial staff of the the Minister of Finance, who accompanied Air Coates to the Ottawa Conference. He will be able to present a comprehensive survey, of the negotiations and communications between New Zealand and the British Government relating to the latter’s pojicy of raising price levels for English agriculturalists. Air Campbell will bo followed by Air Brash, secretary of the Dairy Control Board.
