SOCIAL AND PERSONAL

Despite the inclement weather there was a large attendance of members at rliu meeting of the St. Clair Women’s Club on Monday. The president (Mrs W. J. Williams) was in the chair. The programme lor the evening opened with two pianoforte duets, ‘ The Sandfly Dance ’ and ‘ The Witches’ Flight.’ played by Mrs F. J. and Miss Thalia Green. This was followed by a play reading, ‘ A Marriage Has Been Arranged ’ (Alfred .Sutro), given by Mrs William Hislop and Miss Olive Quartermain. incidental music for which was supplied by Mesdamcs H. Humphreys and Chas. Thomson. A play, ‘ Cupid in the Kitchen,’ caused a great deal of merriment, the parts being played by Mrs F. L. Lawrence and Misses Dorrie Thomson and Rhoda Brooks. A short but very interesting talk was then given by Mrs W. J. Williams on the life and characteristics of George Bernard Shaw. Mrs R. Al'Naughton, on behalf of members, passed a vote of thanks to the performers for a most enjoyable entertainment, and supper and the singing of the National Anthem brought the evening to a close.
