DONATION OF £6,000 DISTRIBUTION OF SAVINGS BANK EIGHT OTHER BODIES SHARE £I,OOO A grant of £C,UOU was made yesterday to the new maternity hospital building lund by tJie trustees ol the Dunedm Savings Bank. The grunt is provisional on the acceptance by the Government of the proposals which hafe been submitted to it by the Otago Hospital Board relative to the finances of the undertaking. The trustees also stipulate that the building is to be erected on the bowling green site. Some months ago the trustees, anticipating the distribution of the annual profits, made a grant of £I,OOO. that grant was revised yesterday, the total amount being fixed at £6,000. Nine .grants of smaller amounts wore also decided upon. A new body to benefit is the St. Kilda Beach Improvement Society, which receives £l5O, which follows a grant made last year for unemployment relief in the borough. £BOO is to be given to the Salvation Army for the relief of distress during the winter months. The Dal-Ray Merrymakers’ Concert Party provided a very pleasant evening lor the inmates of Ross Home on Monday night. The various items were all heartily received, and much amusement was caused by the humorous selections. Mrs Arnold Perry made an efficient accompanist. '-The following items were contributed: —Songs—Mesdames Caklwell and Walton, and Messrs D. White, A. Sraail, P. Edwards, and Percy Brickdale; banjo selection. Mrs Jones; piano-accordion selections, Mr Roberts; humorous selections, Miss D. Leckie and Mr <). W. Todd. Cruising promises to be more popular than ever in Britain this year. It is estimated that 200,1)00 people have’ already made jdans for a holiday afloat, and seven of the largest steamship companies have scheduled 133 ocean trips.
