POSTPONED DAY HELD IN FINE WEATHER HAROLD LOGAN BEATS WALLA WALLA The weather was fine but cold and bleak for the postponed second day of the Forbury Park Trotting Club’s Winter Meeting. The attendance was good, and included a very large proportion of visitors. The track had made a wonderful recovery, and great credit is due the club’s caretaker for its condition. Passing the stand at the end of two furlongs the favourite was racing clear from Mataunga, with Paul Bingen, Billy Sunday, and Journey’s End next, Walter Wrack having gone to a break at the end of the first furlong. With live furlongs to go Sister Mary, wide out on the firmer going, was three lengths clear of Kotinga, Billy Sunday, Mataunga, and Orphan Bingen. Triangle broke at the end of six furlongs, and Journey’s End at the mile. In , the last lap the favourite easily held her own. and won comfortably by three lengths from Kotinga, with Mother’s Boy four lengths off third. Walter Wrack, Chiming Wrack, and Journey’s End were next. Times: 3min 44 l-osec, 3min 42 3-ssec, 3min 43 4-ssec.

The favourite stood on the mark, and gave away fully ten seconds instead of one before he moved off. Erin’s Chance led out from Lone Derby, Greenmantle, and Carillon Chimes, and there was no change in this order until' seven furlongs had been covered, then Dundee, who had been pacing in great style, ran up and joined Lone Derby in the lead. They were followed into the last lap by Greenmantle, Carillon Chimes, and Vologda. Lone Derby and Dundee led Greenmantle, Vologda, and Ronald Derby along the back. Racing across the top Greenmantle joined Dundee and Lone Derby, and directly the straight was entered drew out to win by four lengths from Lone Derby, who heat Dundee a length and a-half. Nelson Pointer led out from Priceless, the pair showing tile way to Sure, Suubloom, and Golden Direct over the first half-mile. Racing along the back Nelson Pointer was just clear of Priceless, with Sure and Golden Direct next. Priceless joined Nelson Pointer at the turn for home, with Sura and Golden Direct handy. Nelson Pointer dropped out in the run for home, and Priceless stayed An to win by half a length from • Sure, who beat Golden Direct by four lengths. Ulm and Lord Leslie were next. Irwin (president of the club) introduced the respective owners to the crowd and called for three cheers for the horses and owners, which were heartily given. THE CONTEST DESCRIBED. Harold Logan drew the rails, but under the conditions of the track this was no advantage. Both horses got away to an excellent start the first time. In the first furlong Walla Walla was a length and a half clear in 50 4-ssec. Walla Walla led into the straight by a length and a-hnlf, and passing the stand was two lengths clear. Three furlongs in 46 ;l-ssec. Both horses were well out from the rails. The half-mile was covered in 63 3-ssec, with the Australian two lengths in front. At the five furlongs Harold Logan closed up a little, and at six furlongs in linin 22 2-ssec Walla Walla was still a length clear, with the same distance between them at the turn. Walla Walla was a length and a-half clear at the turn into the straight, both horses being about 30ft out from the rails. In the run home clown the straight Harold Logan went to a break.
