SCHOOL AGE
RETURN TO FIVE-YEAR-OLD ADMISSION URGED TEACHERS TO PETITION PARLIAMENT (Per United Press Association.] AVELLINGTON, May 8. Reaffirming the remit of 1933—that, in the interests of the physical, social, and moral welfare of the children of Now Zealand, the enactment forbidding the enrolment of a child at a primary school until the age of six years should bo repealed—the delegates at the conference of the New Zealand Educational Institute brought forward additional arguments in support. A remit that teachers and school committees should combine to organise the presentation' of a petition to Parliament on the subject was 1 then discussed. It was passed with the addition of an amendment authorising the incoming executive to set up a sub-committee in one of the four centres, with power to spend up to £SOO, to awaken public opinion to ,a degree that would lead to effective political action being.taken to readmit five-year-old children to the schools.
