Bulcock) announced that since Vestey’s Ltd. had acquired the Angliss interests in Queensland they were considering the establishment of a modern plant for chilled beef production at Port Alma, costing £300,000. Two great American companies, Swift and Armours, had options over killing works in the north, apparently with a view to developing the chilled beef trade. He added that close observers were inclined to the belief that the entry of the American companies into the Australian trade had a much deeper significance than the “ imperfect Ottawa structure afforded.”
