The Abel Tasman, from Newcastle and Port Kombla, left Sydney at midnight last Friday for Auckland, Wellington, Picton, Lyttelton, Dunedin, Bluff, and Westport. She is duo at Auckland to-day. WALK AW A FROM PACIFIC COAST The Waikawa is duo at, Auckland on May 11 from Pacific Coast, ports and Cook Islands. The vessel has cargo for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lvttcltnn, Dunedin, Bluff, Hobart, Melbourne, and Sydney.

HERTFORD AT PORT CHALMERS. The Federal Line steamer Hertford arrived last evening from Wellington, and was berthed at the George street wharf, Port Chalmers, to complete loading. She will lift wool, frozen moat, and dairy produce, and is expected to sail on Tuesday for Halifax, London, and West of England ports via Panama. ORALU LEAVES LIVERPOOL. The Orari left Liverpool last Sunday afternoon for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, and New Plymouth. She is due at Auckland ou J une 6. f THE CANADIAN CRUISER. The Canadian Cruiser left Halifax on April 26 for Australia, Dunedin, and Lyttelton. She is due at Dunedin about June 22. TEKOA AT LONDON. The Tekoa, which left Port Chalmers on March 17 for London, Avoumouth, Liverpool, and Glasgow, arrived at London on the morning of April 28. TEES FOR THE CHATHAMS. The steamer Tees left Lyttelton on Monday evening for Chatham and Pitt Islands, with general cargo. The lollowing were passengers:—Mrs C. Cannon and two children, Miss Z. Din, the Rev. Father O’Brien, Messrs F. W. Mitchell, K. Hvland, A. Clark, and C. Monel. The Tees will load sheep at Pitt Island for Lyttelton and fish at Kaingaroa and Owenga for Wellington. European members of shipping conferences are beginning to consider seriously the nationalistic attitude taken up by several of the United States shipping companies. It is considered that although the Americans take part in these conferences they do not always implement all the agreed arrangements. ' . There appears to be a growing movement on foot to separate the European interests in shipping , conferences m order that they can work in closer cooperation and with a better sense, ot freedom for their own interests. W Inch would mean no actual rate war, but ■would leave American lines to work out their own salvation. SECRET CARGO. Attempts have been made by a British'salvage ship to pull off the Soviet motor ship Kuanetzlessou, which, heavily laden, went ashore in the Pratas Islands whilst on a voyage from Leningrad to Vladivostok. Another Soviet ship is standing by, and the captain of Kuznetzlessou refused to allow a salvage party near tho holds. The cargo is known to include a river gunboat in sections, several launches, and much machinery. The Pratas are one of the coral groups in the South China’ Sea, the subject of a claim by France last year. COASTWISE MOVEMENTS. Opihi arrived early this morning from Wellington. It was hoped to despatch her this afternoon, weather conditions permitting. She will proceed to ellington, Nelson, and New Plymouth via ports. , . . , Holmdale arrived tins morning, but no time of departure was arranged on account of the weather. Storm arrived to-day from Wanganui with wool. She was to load at Dunedin this afternoon ami sail tonight for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, Picton, and Wanganui. Port Whangarei arrived yesterday morning from the north and sailed jast night for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, Tnuranga, Auckland, and Whangarei. WAENUI TO-MORROW. The Union Company advises that tho Wainui is expected to arrive from Melbourne via Bluff to-morrow. She will sail later in the day for Oamarii,-Tim-aru. Lyttelton, Wellington, and Auckland. HERTFORD TO SAIL. 'Hie New Zealand Shipping Company advises that the Hertford is to sail at daylight to-morrow for Halifax (Nova Scotia) and London. - WAIKOUAITI’S MOVEMENTS.
