HORSE TRAINER DIES FROM INJURIES. John Armstrong, aged fifty-eight, married, a horse trainer, of Spreydon, died in the hospital last evening a* the result ofi head injuries when he was thrown by the horse Gappy Ricks during schooling operations on Tuesday at Riccarton. He had been semi-con-scious ever since.—Christchurch Press Association., FATALLY STRUCK BY CAR. Fatal head injuries were received by Mr A. R. Ponder, a well-known commercial traveller and an elderly wid. ower, of Rugby street, Christchurch, yesterday afternoon when he was struck by a motor truck near the safety zone at the cornel- of Queen street and Victoria street, east, Auckland. The vehicle, which was owned*, by Messrs Turner and Growers, Ltd., was proceeding up Queen street and Mr Ponder was knocked down, striking his head on the kerb of the safety zone. The injured man. who was unconscious, was taken to hospital in tho ambulance. He died at 7 p.i^.
