GUILT ADMITTED
ESCAPED PRISONERS BEFORE COURT [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, May 2. Allegations that they had been compelled to live under undesirable conditions were made by two prisoners, Raymond Claude Hogg and John Thomas Hartley, when they appeared in the Supreme Court on a charge of escaping from lawful custody at the Hautu prison camp on February 16. They pleaded guilty. “ Why did you not plead guilty in the lower court and save the trouble of bringing the case to this court r asked Mr Justice Ostler of the prisonlt was explained by Hartley that he had been uncertain how to plead until this week. He also said he preferred to be dealt with by a judge rather than by a magistrate. ' The accused were remanded tor sentence.
