BAYLY'S DEFENCE
MR A. G. HANLONS RETIREMENT AUCKLAND BARRISTERS VISIT' DUNEDIN Acting under medical advice, Mr A. C. Hanlon, K.C., has reluctantly decided to relinquish the brief offered him to defend William Alfred Bayly on charges of murder at the sitting of the Supreme Court in Auckland on May 21. For the purpose of conferring with Mr Hanlon on the large amount of preparatory work done in connection with the defence Bayly’s Auckland barristers, Messrs E. H.. Northcroft and R. B. Lusk, flew to Dunedin, at short notice. Leaving Auckland at 7.10 a.m. "in a machine piloted by Flightlieutenant Allan, of the Auckland Aero Club, they reached the Taien Aerodrome at 2.15 p.m. and were motored to the city for the consultation in Mr Hanlon’s chambers. ‘lncluding a stop of 25 minutes at Blenheim for refuelling, the trip took seven hours and five minutes. . , Mr Hanlon had previously intimated that he was unable to accept the brief, and the Auckland barristers visited Dunedin tq obtain his judgment on points in the evidence. , Messrs Northcroft and Lusk left the Taieri Aerodrome on their return flight at 8 a.m. to-day, .
